A Bad Boy for Christmas Second Chance Jessica Lemmon 9781455558100 Books

Coming as the third book in Jessica Lemmon's Second Chance series, A Bad Boy for Christmas tells the sweet and simple, friends-to-lovers story with another of her signature alphas and difficult but lovable heroines. Set in Evergreen Cove like the first two books but immersed in the holidays this book is heart warming, sentimental, and fun. A twist on how we learn to let go and discover ourselves while falling in love with someone unexpected.

Connor and Faith are immersed in their day to day lives simply existing. Surrounded by close friends coupling together and starting new lives when Faith is seemingly in danger Connor is the natural choice to protect her. What was, from the first two books, a fun and flirtatious only friendship morphs into one much more meaningful for them both and eventually that road leads to even more.

Jessica Lemmon's stories continually remind of Kristen Ashley books. While each write very differently in unique and interesting styles their contemporary romance story telling is so very good for the reading soul. Lemmon makes it easy to become engrossed in her world of Evergreen Cove in this series. Each and every new main character pair and the recurrence of past characters present a great reading escape. I look forward to more of her catalog of stories.

To read A Bad Boy for Christmas as a stand alone would be perfectly acceptable however I would strongly suggest not missing out on the two stories that preclude it.

I really didn’t think that Lemmon could create another bad boy that would replace Evan Downey, from Bringing Home the Bad Boy, on my book boyfriend’s list. And I was right. She couldn’t. But she came very very close with Connor McClain. To be fair, however, Evan and Conner really are worlds apart on the man-scale. Tattoo artist versus ex-military man? Yep, a little hard to compare. So, I won’t try. I’ll let Connor speak for himself. He has noooo problem doing that anyway.

We were teased with little snippets of Connor from the first two books and I was waiting ever so patiently (NOT) to find out all about the muscle bound god in tight jeans. What? Faith said it first. I’m just agreeing.

So consider my interest quite peaked when Connor, of the Evergreen Cove Bad Boys, turned out not to be so bad. Instead, this man with the rock-hard body was actually a great big marshmallow when it comes to those he loves. Really, what more could you ask for in a man. Rock-hard. Check. Protective. Check. Gooey center. Check.

SwA-oon. Yes, he IS swoon-worthy.

Enter Faith Garrett, the tall blond modelesque beauty of the Cove ladies. I knew she had a jerk of an ex-fiancé lurking nearby, but I didn’t realize what a sleaze we were actually dealing with until this book. Just wait…you’ll be ready to throttle him too. Mark my words.

After getting blindsided when said jerk cheats on her with a girl named Cookie (sadly, you heard me right…Cookie…yuck), Faith shuts her heart away and is bound and determined never to be dependent on a man or relationship again. She has some serious walls going on. But let’s just say…I’m proud of a certain Beefcake for not letting his Cupcake hide her heart from him for long.

5 stars to A Bad Boy for Christmas! I mean, really, was there ever any doubt Lemmon would receive any less for her bad boys?

Now, I have to wait until APRIL to find out what is gonna happen with Asher and Gloria in Return of the Bad Boy. I have no doubt whatsoever that book four is going to be fiery and feisty as Gloria (a.k.a. Sarge) wouldn’t have it any other way.
My Review
This is just one of those series that's been really enjoyable. This book was no exception to the rule, but I did feel like this particular installment had a lot more than normal going on with the characters...and I liked that.

These are two people who've both been burned by love, but for Faith, it goes deeper than that. She truly thinks that she's cursed with love and never plans to ever get that deep again. As a result, she really tries to keep Connor at a distance...something he simply doesn't allow. I love that about him.

Connor is a driven guy, and he wants Faith. I love how upfront he is. He doesn't allow her to think, to doubt, to question what they have going on. He seems to really get her and her issues...which are many. The best scene is with her breasts. I seriously fell even deeper in love with this guy after that. He's just incredible and so perfect for Faith.

But he has his haunting issues too. He has PTSD after 4 tours in Afghanistan. But I love how he works through that with his landscaping company. There's some great symbolism in the book with plants in winter and what he gets out of that. And I really love that he smells like lavender because of it...just one of those little details that makes him even more lovable.

And then if that's all not enough, there's an age difference. I don't think it was ever settle exactly how much of a difference there is between them, but for Faith, whose mother is an unapologetic cougar, this is definitely an issue...even if Connor is more mature than she is. Honestly, Faith is a hot mess, but Connor doesn't care. He handles her beautifully. I loved them together and how he calmed and soothed her. It's a great story about how the perfect mate can make a person better...in every way. This is what happens with these two.

And then it's set in the middle of a snowy Christmas season with decorating, snowbound, romantic scenes in front of the fireplace...all really good things. I just plain liked the book and think you will, too.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
