Overall Rating: 4 Rockin’ StarsStumbling upon The Purest of the Breed, the Community Series book two by Tracy Tappan was an educational learning process for those of us not savvy about the various pop cultures used by the author to develop this unique one of a kind book. It is an intricately woven tale filled with Vampire myths, the never ending battling for dominance and survival between the Demon, Fae and Vampire Races. This story focuses on Dev and Marissa's happily ever after and the struggle to get there.
Marissa is kidnapped from her bed in the middle of the night. She is terrified of what lies ahead for her, because the brutes that have her are horrendous with a capital "H". She finds herself with two other women in an abandoned warehouse, hoping upon hope that someone will come to their aide and rescue them. Dev is an Elite Pureblood Vampire that chose to be a warrior with his family’s permission. He is searching for the one woman that will complete him, his mate. While on a rescue mission, he inhales the sweet scent of Marissa, his mate. He knows that he will protect, care for her and keep her safe always.
This story was mind-blowing with its numerous subplots that were done really well. You had several characters battling various dramas while the main plot continued to build in its intensity. The characters were well developed and you were able to sense their insanity, hopelessness, heartache and more. The story is fast-paced and you dread laying the book down until it is finished.

This is the second in the Community Book series by Tracy Tappan. Although it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I'm not usually drawn to Paranormal romance books but the synopsis of this book had me curious. I am glad I gave into my curiosity.
The series is about two communities, Tarana, who because of their Vampire like traits, must reside underground and the Om Rau who exist Topside otherwise known as, our world. They are competing for the Dragon Blood humans.
Tracy brings you into a world rich in history and tradition. She does a good job of educating the reader on the history without bogging the reader down with too much detail. She gave just enough history for the reader to understand why actions that were taken in the past had affected their world in the present. Doing this made for a well-rounded story.
Although the series is about the communities, the main characters are the Warrior class of the Varcolac community. These men are tasked with protecting the underground society. You really got the sense of the skills and abilities they possessed with the way the action scenes were written. They were very well done.
This story is about Dev, the second in command of the Warrior class and a newbie Dragon Blood human named Marissa. They met when he went Topside to rescue her from the Om Rau. Their relationship was started under false pretenses since he could not divulge what he really was to her. Even after the big reveal, their relationship does not move forward. It isn’t until tragedy strikes that they realize they are meant to be in each other’s lives that they truly are soul mates.
This book is filled with so much good stuff it was hard to write this review without giving too much away. I wanted to cover everything. All in all, this was a fun read and I am hooked on the series and look forward to the third book.

These are great guys and you can’t help but to support the species and cheer for them in the war against the Om Rau. They are the Varcolac. The Varcolac are what we know as vampires. They have many traits that we expect vampires to have but they are not the vicious creatures of the book “Dracula”. Because humans were afraid of them (due to nasty rumors, and were killing them, they hid underground for protection. Their community is somewhat like we would picture a very small town. This is the second book of the series. Not only do we get a lot of action, we receive more of their history.
Because of the inability of the Varcolac to have healthy children among themselves, most of the Warrior Class age group has Dragon Blood. The only Pure Bloods are Dev and his sister Luvera. Using their parents, we are given the history of the Class system over 100 years ago. We learn of the human fear, generated by the Romanian general, of the Varcolac. He spread rumors about the Varcolac and organized groups to kill them. In the present, we interact more personally with the guys in the Warrior Class. They have more possible mates than they are ever had before, at one time. This is due to the computer genius of Alex, Toni’s brother.
We have love and romantic struggles in this book. The war continues and there is fear for their women and their community. There is heart break, betrayal and of course--a lot of action.
Some twists because , Who's in charge of the Top Side Om Rau .. Who's the Leader of the Underground Om Rau .. there' two WTFs right there!!
Hopeful as each Varcolac Male is hoping that one of the Dragon Females falls in love with one of them..
Steady as the book is going along great then Bam someone's kidnapped , or in Danger, Torcherd , puts you fight or flight mode .. eyes wide reading
Complex because there's lots going on you've got the Top Om Rau ... Underground Om Rau .. Then you have the Varcolac living Underground. Then Humans ... The Dragon Women .. but I love this type of Depth to a Book/Series ...
Devid the "Vamp" who just wants to fall in love There's a great twist as why any of the males just cant have Women ... & he does with Marissa , she's not sure if she wants this Life long Bonding Business... is it in the manual ...lol.. Best line I think Marissa say to Dev ...
"Respect" - Gee thanks Dev , but if its all the same to you , Id prefer to have my knees pinned back to my ears & my ankles swinging while you pound me into the headboard rather than your non-orgasm-inspiring "Respect"
